Ringing in 2011
Velvet Speakeasy's Animal House Ball
Why? Because this is no time for "a quiet few drinks with friends."
This New Year’s Eve, head to Velvet for their Animal House 2011 Ball and count down the hours to the challenging year ahead (the year where you will be reborn, of course!). Then you will be ready to own the world -- not least because because last year you didn't.

The lovely establishment will be opening all its levels with different DJ for each floor (Jordan Dare, Christian Pronovost and Brendon Duvall). This is a night not to be missed, which, if the name is anything to go by, is sure to feature loads of cute animals who are right now primping and preening themselves and getting ready. No turkeys invited, though, as we're all over that. Mostly kittens and ponys, actually.

   RESTAURANT OPENING OF THE WEEK
Bocata
Why? Because it's what you think about when you think of the Old Port.
It's a cozy, Old Port restaurant from the founders of Borroco, with interior design that makes you feel like you are in a scene from Amélie. But is the food as good as the movie the place reminds us of? The answer is yes, and let us just enumerate a few of the many reasons: the very high-end immersion-circulator-style cooking (no stove tops), which is a form of poaching; the tapas-and-matching-wine menu; the smoked duck, beef caponata, oysters, and foie gras and crab ravioli -- plus many more options. Very cozy, limited and a must (this you must trust). The streets of the Old Port were made for places like this.
